Drum Lessons for All Ages and Abilities
Whether your child has been tapping on every surface in the house or you’re an adult who’s always wanted to get behind a kit, our Leeds studio is the place to start. We offer one-to-one drum lessons for all ages, from children as young as five through to adults, with no experience needed.
Every lesson is tailored to the individual. Your tutor will get to know what kind of music you love and build lessons around it, so you’re always working on something that actually excites you. From your first single stroke roll to more complex fills and grooves, we’ll take it at whatever pace feels right.
And the first lesson is completely free. No commitment, no pressure. Just turn up, have a go, and see what you think.
Learn with Professional Drummers
Our drum tutors at the Leeds studio are working musicians who perform and record alongside their teaching. That real-world experience makes a difference. They know what it takes to play in a band, keep time under pressure, and make drumming feel natural rather than mechanical.
Lessons cover everything from rock, pop and funk to jazz and metal. If you want to work towards graded exams through Trinity or Rockschool, your tutor can prepare you for that. If you’d rather just play the songs you love for fun, that’s equally valid. The lesson is yours.

A Proper Drum Studio in Leeds
Our Leeds studio at Swinnow Grange Mills is set up specifically for teaching music. Each drum room has two full kits – one for you and one for your tutor – so you can play together and learn by watching, listening and doing. It’s a setup that makes a real difference to how quickly you progress.
There’s free parking on site and a comfortable waiting area for parents and guardians. We’re easy to reach from across Leeds, including Bramley, Pudsey, Horsforth, Kirkstall, and the city centre.

More Than Just Lessons
When you learn at Top of the Rock, you become part of a community. We run regular showcases and live performance events where pupils get to play in front of an audience, which builds confidence in a way that practice rooms can’t. Our annual Christmas Showcase is a highlight for pupils and parents alike.
We also work with schools across Yorkshire, bringing drumming into the classroom and giving young people the chance to discover what they can do with a pair of sticks and a bit of encouragement.

What to Expect from Your First Drum Lesson
Your first lesson is free and there’s genuinely no obligation. Here’s how it works:
You’ll meet your tutor, have a chat about the kind of music you enjoy, and get straight onto the kit. Most people are playing a basic beat before the end of their first session. Your tutor will get a sense of where you’re at and what your goals are, then put together a plan from there.
You don’t need to bring anything. No sticks, no music, no experience. Just show up.
We also offer singing lessons and guitar lessons at our Leeds studio.

Frequently asked questions
How much do drum lessons cost in Leeds?
We offer 30-minute, 45-minute and 60-minute drum lessons at competitive rates compared to other Leeds providers. Payment is spread across 12 monthly direct debits with no binding contracts, so you can cancel any time. Your very first lesson is completely free, so you can try it out with no commitment.
What age can you start drum lessons?
We teach drum pupils from age five through to adults of all ages. There’s no upper limit and it’s never too late to start. Our tutors tailor every lesson to the individual, so whether your child is picking up sticks for the first time or you’re an adult who’s always wanted to learn, we’ll find the right approach for you.
Do I need my own drum kit to take lessons?
No. Our Leeds studio has fully equipped rooms with dual drum kits, so you and your tutor each have your own kit during the lesson. You don’t need to bring anything along. If you’re thinking about getting a kit for home practice, your tutor can advise on what would suit your level and budget.
Can I choose what songs I learn on the drums?
Absolutely. Song choice is a big part of what we do. Your tutor will work with you on the music you actually want to play, whether that’s rock, pop, funk, jazz or anything else. Letting pupils pick their own songs keeps things fun and means you’re always motivated to practise.
Can I work towards graded drum exams?
Yes. Our tutors can prepare you for graded exams through Trinity or Rockschool, which can also count towards UCAS points for older pupils. Grades are completely optional though. Plenty of our pupils learn purely for enjoyment, and that’s just as valid.
Where is the Leeds drum studio?
