Guitar Lessons for Beginners and Experienced Players
Thinking about learning guitar? Whether you’re a complete beginner, picking it back up after years away, or looking to push past a plateau, our Leeds studio offers one-to-one guitar lessons for all ages and abilities.
Lessons are built around the music you want to play. Your tutor will work with you on the songs you actually enjoy, whether that’s acoustic fingerpicking, electric riffs, or classical technique. That’s what keeps people coming back week after week, and it’s what makes the difference between a lesson that feels like homework and one you genuinely look forward to.
Your first lesson is free, so there’s nothing to lose. Come in, meet your tutor, pick up a guitar and see how it feels.
Learn Guitar with a Working Musician
Our guitar tutor at the Leeds studio is a professional musician who performs and records alongside their teaching. That means you’re not just learning from a textbook. You’re getting practical insights from someone who has real experience on stage and in the studio.
Lessons cover acoustic, electric and classical guitar across a wide range of styles. Your tutor will teach you the techniques, chords and theory you need, but always in the context of music you care about. If you want to work through graded exams with Trinity or Rockschool, that’s an option too, and the grades can count towards UCAS points for older pupils.

Guitar Lessons for Kids, Teens and Adults
For children and teenagers: guitar is one of the most rewarding instruments a young person can learn. It builds coordination, concentration and confidence. Your child gets to choose the songs they work on, which keeps them engaged and excited about practising at home. We teach from age five upwards.
For adults: it’s never too late. Whether you’ve always wanted to play or you used to play years ago and want to pick it back up, lessons are relaxed, personal and shaped entirely around your goals. No judgement, no fixed curriculum, just one-to-one time with a tutor who gets it.

Play, Perform, Progress
Learning guitar at Top of the Rock isn’t just about what happens in the lesson room. We run regular showcases and performance events where pupils get to play live. For a lot of our guitarists, standing up and playing a song in front of people is the moment it all clicks.
Whether you want to perform or you’d rather just play for your own enjoyment at home, we’ll support you either way.

What to Expect from Your First Guitar Lesson
Your first guitar lesson is free. You’ll meet your tutor, talk about the kind of music you enjoy, and get playing straight away. Most beginners leave their first session having learned a handful of chords and the basics of a song they recognise.
You don’t need to bring a guitar. We have instruments in the studio for you to use. If you already have your own, bring it along and your tutor can make sure it’s set up well for learning.
We also offer drum lessons and singing lessons at our Leeds studio.

Frequently asked questions
How much do guitar lessons cost in Leeds?
We offer 30-minute, 45-minute and 60-minute guitar lessons at competitive rates. Payment is spread over 12 monthly direct debits with no contracts, so you can cancel at any time. The first lesson is always free, giving you the chance to meet your tutor and see if it feels right before committing.
Do you teach acoustic, electric and classical guitar?
Yes, all three. Your tutor will work with whichever style suits your interests. If you’re not sure which type of guitar to start with, that’s something your tutor can help with during your free first lesson.
What age can you start guitar lessons?
We teach guitar from age five upwards, including adults. Whether your child has been asking about lessons or you’re an adult who’s always wanted to learn, there’s no wrong time to start. Lessons are tailored to each individual so the pace always feels right.
Do I need to bring my own guitar?
No, we have guitars available in the studio. If you have your own instrument, you’re welcome to bring it along. Your tutor can also advise on buying a guitar that suits your playing level and the style of music you enjoy.
Can I learn to play the songs I like?
That’s the whole idea. Lessons are personalised around the music you love. Your tutor will teach you the techniques and theory you need while working through songs you actually want to play, from pop and rock to blues, indie and beyond.
Can I take graded guitar exams?
Yes. We offer preparation for Trinity and Rockschool graded exams, which can contribute towards UCAS points. Grades are entirely optional. Many of our guitarists learn just for the pleasure of it, and that’s brilliant too.
